Voting in the June 2017 general election at SCC

General Election – Voting at SCC

12th June 2017 by SCC
News

Sutton Christian Centre opened its doors early on Thursday 8th June to allow local residents to vote in the General Election. Polling booths had been delivered the day before, with the ballot boxes, voting papers….and those important pencils…arriving on Thursday morning.

Prior to Thursday morning we had given the building a tiny makeover, re-painting our rather weather-beaten cross and ensuring that our noticeboard displays were up to date.

It was great to see a steady trickle of our neighbours arriving throughout the day, and by the time the polls closed at 10.00pm, around 2,500 people had passed through our doors!

Now, having been a Polling Station once, we’re very keen to do so again, perhaps adding a coffee shop/get together area too.

Family at play with the didgeridoo

Family Sausage Sizzle

Sutton Christian Centre was transformed into a mini version of Australia on Saturday 3rd June when we got together to say farewell to Paul, Sarah and Alex Elphick before they head off to set up their new family home in Australia.

Sarah was born in Adelaide and had come to England where she had met and then married Paul…and before too long we had the joy of getting to know young Alex.  Paul, who had been part of the SCC family for some 22 years, is having to swap his support for Sutton United for the Adelaide Crows!

The afternoon featured a sausage sizzle, inflatable kangaroos, the singing of Waltzing Matilda and of course, attempts to play the didgeridoo!

We’ll miss the lovely Elphicks, but pray God’s best for them as they start a new life on the other side of the world.
