Alpha Course – coming soon

25th November 2019 by SCC
News

The next Alpha course will be announced in the coming weeks.  Alpha is the perfect place to ask life’s difficult question, beginning with ‘Is there more to life than this?’

Each evening will begin with a meal, followed by a short talk (on video or live). There will then be time for a drink and a slice of cake before finishing off with a discussion on the evening’s talk in small groups. There is absolutely no pressure, no follow up and no charge….and no question asked will be considered  too ridiculous in any way. For more information,  watch this space!

Seniors Celebration Meal

25th April 2019 by SCC
News

A delicious meal of beef lasagne, served with focaccia bread and salad, followed by a choice of apple crumble or vanilla cheesecake and rhubarb…served with custard, cream (or both!!) helped to ensure that our senior guests at the ‘Easter Celebration’ all went home extremely happy…and rather full!

Following the meal, our visitors heard a story about a model boat that had ended up in a junk shop…and the word ‘Redeem’ was explained with the help of a London Pride ‘FREE PINT VOUCHER’ and a song by Keith Green.

We’ve already started to plan our next Seniors’ Celebration Meal, which takes place on Thursday 26th September, 12 noon until 3pm at Tate Road.  It will be a harvest special…so make sure that you come and join us!

Easter Week

21st April 2019 by SCC
News

Members of SCC helped to celebrate Easter in a variety of ways this year. Palm crosses were given out on Palm Sunday, followed by a message about Jesus’ last few days before his crucifixion. Our crosses helped remind us to pray throughout the week.

Maundy Thursday saw our 20s and 30s group (The Lounge) forming a production line  at church to fill Bags of Hope with a variety of goodies ready for the street outreach on Saturday.
On Good Friday we joined Christians from other churches in Sutton and Cheam for the Walk of Witness, culminating in a service in Trinity Square.

Of course, our big Easter Celebration took place on Easter Sunday and included a powerful dramatic presentation of the Easter Story, communion…and an Easter Egg hunt for the children.

HE IS RISEN!

A Lad In A Manger

16th December 2018 by SCC
News

‘A Lad In A Manger’ our Christmas Pantomime proved to be a big hit…once again! Sutton Christian Centre originally staged this mash-up of the nativity story with Aladdin some twenty years ago.  With an updated script, brand new songs, and a cast which included church members (some of whom had never performed on-stage in their life) taking roles, the production played twice on Sunday 16th December 2018 to a packed audience…who boo’ed and hissed in all the right places!

Over the past few months, SCC has seen a greater use of drama in our Sunday services and ‘The SCC Players’ plan to return with skits and sketches throughout the year.

The Big Quiz

17th November 2018 by SCC
News

In November 2018, Sutton Christian Centre was one of 498 venues hosting Tearfund’s ‘The Big Quiz’. For this fundraising event, Tearfund provided the same questions to each participating venue via a movie file, and the evening,  complete with a delicious chip-shop meal, was both enjoyable and closely-fought! Eventual Quiz Champs, once again, was a team from the Devenish Family, who now are proud holders of the SCC QUIZ NIGHT trophy.

Connect Group Launch

1st July 2018 by SCC
News

In the Summer of 2018 our church care-structure was re-launched, and our K-Groups became Connect Groups.  All who consider SCC their home church are placed into a Connect Group…places where people can be helped to discover their calling, develop their gifts and find out how best they can serve others. Connect Groups meet in local homes across the borough, and the small nature of these groups allows people to get close enough to know each other, to care and share, to challenge and support, to confide and confess, to forgive and be forgiven, to laugh or cry together, to watch over each other, to pray for each other and to grow together….and not forgetting enjoying the tea and cakes together too.

Baptism

Ronnie’s Baptism

26th January 2018 by SCC
News

We celebrated Ronnie’s return to faith at his water baptism service on Sunday 28th January. Ronnie’s remarkable testimony began as he told how as a young boy, his father had brought him and his brothers from Syria to England, paid in part, by the sale of some oranges. He had been brought up in the Christian faith, but had managed to lose his way…until circumstances led to his dad telling him to get involved in a local church community. A little bit of Googling had brought Ronnie to SCC on a Family Service Sunday….where God spoke to him through various people involved in he service. Ronnie’s sheer enthusiasm and love for God was very clear as he was baptised!

The Prayer Course

15th January 2018 by SCC
News

Our Sunday morning services during January and into February are centered around the fabulous videos produced by the 24/7 prayer movement. Each video looks at an aspect of prayer and is based upon the Lord’s Prayer. During our services, which start at 10am, we start with worship, watch the next video in the series, followed by a short talk, supplementing the content of the video. We really value prayer at SCC, but acknowledge that it is always right to ask, “Lord, teach us to pray!”
Why not join us on this adventure in prayer at Sutton Christian Centre?

Sutton Christian Centre's church picnic to Oaks Park

Picnic in the Park

17th July 2017 by SCC
News

On the afternoon of Sunday 16th July, SCC held another picnic in the beautiful surroundings of Oaks Park. As usual we set up camp on some grass by the cafe and had some fun in the sun! Although there weren’t too many takers for a game of ‘Hoop Relay Noughts and Crosses’ it was a great opportunity to spend some time with each other outside the walls of the church…and I have never seen quite so many cooked cocktail sausages in one place!
